One the reasons I enjoy books so much you learn items that you might never heard about before. I had never new about this CANES until read Tony Hillerman’s SARCED CLOWNS. This a masterpiece of a book. The story revolves around these CANES causing environment and political policies. Plus he explores the young police officer and a senior office how they view love. I have now read almost all of Tony’s Navajo and feel this the best one I have read.

When the Spanish dominated the Aztecs and other tribes the King sent a ebony cane with a silver cap to the Pueblo Indians as symbol of authority. Mexico also sent a similar canes when they became the rulers of the Pueblo. In 1863 President LINCOLN sent the 19 Pueblo a similar cane hoping to keep Indians out the Civil War. These are known as LINCOLN CANES and worth plenty.

A review of SARCED CLOWNS will follow later.

We where fortunate to watch this pair of trumpeter swans with their young one summer.
