If we were having  coffee/tea, I would invite you inside as it is very cold out there. We had a week of stormy weather and now the temperature has dropped into one diget. We got around 4 inches of snow on the ground. Selr your drink, there is fresh coffee and several kinds of tea. I am having English Breakfast tea. There are chocolate chip cookies, chocolate cake and chocolates. Kato is not happy as it is to cold for his walks. Bob has been feeding around 50 California quail just on the grounds. Our patio is cover with seed and we can watch the house sparrows come for food. Ours is not the only balcony with seed scattered on it.

Not a lot is happening this week. We had our Christmas pot luck this week. There was a good crowd present. Not too many old timers any more. The new residents are younger and the number of men has definitely increased. The ham was delicious and there was plenty of other food. The Christmas dinner is early as many of the residents go to their family on Christmas. This year on the 23 we will have a Christmas open house.

The electronics continue to confuse me. I went to put my reviews on WordPress only to find my computer had been disconnected from the internet. I lost it, I was really angry and upset. We had purchased an expensive antivirus program and Bob had already taken his computer back three times because it didn’t work . He took it back to the shop. He had 45 minute wait as it seem a lot of computers had the same problem. He was told Microsoft had updated Windows 10 causing all the computers not able to connect to the internet. I still do understand Amazon new  photos program and I can’t find my pictures. It seems easy to use.

I have been reading  a number of ARCs lately and some books I have been wanting to read for some time. I will have no new book reviews until after  Christmas. December 27. Books been released that day are:

ICED UNDER by Barbara Ross

BELL, BOOK AND CANDLEMAS by Jennifer David Heese

Next year 2017 looks like it will be a banner year for new books being  released as my reading list already has a number of my favorite authors.I will add books the rest of the year as I have a chance to read them.

I’m a computer professional and fought with my computer for hours before I discovered a button that said “Reload Networking” or some such thing. I clicked and 20 minutes later was on line (technical stuff – the networking card was not able to pick up an IP address over DHCP. i could manually put one in, but that’s dangerous. OK, back to stuff normal people can understand 😉 ) When it happened to my wife’s computer I fixed it right away and figured it was because of a Microsoft Windows 10 “fix”. I wondered what “normal” people, i.e., people who aren’t IT professionals, did. I guess you told me – took them to the poor repair people who were backlogged!

I hope you have a great week!

    • And lot of angry customers at the wrong people. My husband’s computer down often but mine is not. I been working with computers since the 80’s. My first one I deleted dos. My brother and nephew wanted me to learn how to work with them. I shuddered when I format the disk. They were right, I learned a lot from that experiences. However, I don’t understand the new software coming out. I guessing they are all working for the iphone. By the time software for one program is up to date, a fix changes it and the program is behind again. Very frustrating for consumers. My brother who work for IBM predicted this would happen. Growing up automobile were the biggest consumer rip off. I feel computers are the biggest rip off. Most do even know it.

The issue, from my standpoint, is that the simpler they care to work the harder it is for anyone to find out what’s really happening with them. And I mean both computers and cars 😉

4 inches of snow… wow… that would be cold.
Yeah, Windows 10 updates sometimes cause a lot of issues. I have experienced it sometime ago too. Have a great week ahead, Betty and best wishes of the festive season to you and your family. Love the Christmassy decorations! 🙂

    • Our 4 inches of snow is really nothing. We just learned to live with it. The roads are cleared when the temperature is above freezing.
I hate it when companies do something to caused trouble. I was really angry at the wrong party.

  3. Ugh! Windows 10! My computer went into a continuous restart loop that drove me crazy until I managed to update a driver. I also hate Microsoft Edge! Hope you’ve gotten your issues fixed. Nothing worse than trying to get stuff done and your computer is having a hissy fit. Love your pictures as always, BettyLouise. :o)

    • My Kindle was causing me problems when I was writing my blog today. Someone was complaining about WordPress new reader. I wonder why they thought a company would be concern about what the users wanted.

  4. Your Christmas stockings are beautiful! I hope you have a wonderful Christmas!

  5. I hate it when computers become a source of frustration when all you want to do is get things done. Thanks for coffee and chocolates, Betty! Stay warm!

    • I spend a lot of time trying to do things on the computer but I can remember a time when you had to wait for mail or if you were lucky the phone. Computers have allow us to have quick communication.

Your decorations look lovely! Is that small bird an owl? He is a beauty!

  7. Colline says:

Your photos of the birds are beautiful. Where did you take them?

  8. I love your book shares. Thank you! Stay warm

I’m glad I never downloaded the free Windows 10 upgrade. Everyone seems to be having problems since they installed it. I’m glad you were able to get back online. My internet was out last Sunday and Monday but I used the 4G connection on my phone to get online when I had to.

I hope you have a wonderful week and a very happy Christmas!

  10. Love your blog and your decorations are wonderful!

I love your decorations! Stay warm and have a merry Christmas!

  12. Beautiful pictures! I hope you stay warm!

  13. Your decorations look wonderful, Betty Louise. My new Surface pro 3 won’t turn on so I have to send it to a costco repair vendor. I still have my new desktop but traveling next week without my pro will be limiting. Oh well, more family time!

    • Thanks for the compliment. As I read about all the computer problems that are occurring I remember my brother who work for IBM predicted that sometime in the future there would be a lot of problems occurring. He is not around but I suspect he would be smiling now. I want to put the decorations on your blog but haven’t got around to it.

So sorry about the computer problem. I’ve had problems with WordPress saving my posts without any glitches on the computer. It is so frustrating to put so much work into writing something and lose it all, especially when you’ve saved the draft over and over while you’re writing it!

It sounds like you have a lot of reading coming your way. Do you just pick what you’re going to read or do authors ask you to review their books for them?

    • I lost one blog that took over an hour to get it like I want and had to redo it. I am finding new ways almost everyday. I guess we could say it is a learning lesson.

    • Regarding selecting books to read, I rely mostly on NetGalley. I do belong to a few others books. I get all kinds of requests from various places. When an author requests for a review, I try an answer them. I accept very few books from them as most are not in a format that I can easily read. I have tried in the past only to spend more time searching for the book than reading it. I make a point to review every book I read. I try to get the ARCs out they day the book is released. NetGalley places books for my view and I requests the book I want to read. The publisher checks to see if they okay my request. I am notified either way. If yes, I can download it to my Kindle. I send my review back to the publisher through NetGalley. A NetGalley account is free. There is read now to get you started. If you just request books to read without sending back feedback, you won’t get very far.
