THE COUNTRY CLUB  MURDERS by Julie Mulhern

THINK POSITIVE! HUGS!

MY REVIEW:

The first in a new delightful and original creative story that I enjoyed very much. Ellison Russell is swimming when runs into a body. After she recovers from the shock and calls the police she discovers the body is her husband’s mistress. Her husband, Henry is missing and told no one where he was going. Ellison soon finds that her husband was into sadist sex. Her home is vandalized and she was knocked unconscious. Cleaning up the room she finds that Henry was blackmailing all their friends including her Father.

Ellison must find the answer to the events to save all those she loves from death. I recommend this book highly.

MY REVIEW:

Ellison Russell finds Bobby Lowell under the football stadium and his dying words are” Tell her I loved her. Ellison starts hunting for the girl with the obstacles in her path that she has trouble finding her. Meanwhile, the daughter has become troublesome and the detective and her lawyer cause her grief. This book has several twists and the plot changes directions as these occur. The series is now a favorite and I recommend it.

MY REVIEW:

Ellison Russell is dismayed when she opens her door to find her sister there. She is expecting her Aunt as a guest and both are not really wanted at this time. Thus starts a new adventure for Ellison. She misses being hurt by a falling object, being shot at, firebomb at her home. Her Dad insists that she has police protection and Anarchy moves into the garage apartment. Her Aunt had not been home for a number of years and she has a secret reason for returning. The themes are blended together for an enchanting and funny story. I recommend this series highly.

MY REVIEW:

It is Halloween time and Ellison Russell is seeing clowns everywhere. The worst was when two clowns came at her and one collapsed in front of her. She hears “Help me, Mrs. Russell”. Ellison is upset with the men in her life. Her father who feels he must protect her, informs her, she needs to marry so there is a man to manage her. Another is Anarchy, a homicide detective who believes her about the clowns, but wants to keep her safe and told her to stay out of the investigation. Anarchy starts her heart beating faster and her body reacts. Her lawyer, Hunter Tafft, is the man her parents want her to marry. Ellison can trust him to be helpful, he still wants to manage her actions. Her mother wants to control her life completely. Her daughter has a long-standing crush on an older man. Will Ellison show all that she can take of herself before the knife-holding clown finds her again? The books in this series keep getting better.

MY REVIEW:

A cozy mystery that is a funny and superb read yet it deals with a major social problem. The first portion had me laughing at the antics. This is the fifth book in the series and I have been fortunate to read all of them. The series is set in the 1970s and features members of the Country Club’s set. Details of the area are perfect. Telephone on the wall, going next door to call out, the comments on Mr. Coffee are fabulous. I still remember my first one and I am not a coffee drinker. While each book can be read as a standalone, reading in order will add to your enjoyment.

Ellison Russell is a widow and her teenage daughter is Grace. She has a dog, Max. Her caregiver is Aggie. Her Mother wants everything to be proper.  Much to her Mother’s dismay, Ellison keeps finding dead people who have been murdered. She has selected Hunter Tafft for Ellison’s next husband while Allison is developing a crush on the lead homicide detective, Anarchy.

In this book, Ellison leaves her decorator, Khaki White, alone in her home to pick up Aggie. She is gone 20 minutes and finds Khaki dead in her study. Anarchy has a new partner, Detective Peters who is a law-abiding officer. He feels everything is black and white. At this point, the tale has enough twists to keep you reading. I didn’t put it down until finished it. You will learn about Society’s feelings about domestic abuse at the time. I highly recommend this book and series.

My REVIEW:

This series keeps getting better with each book, this one did not disappoint. It is set in the 1970s era and the background of country club residents. I love the play on words. It fixed the theme. It is November and an early snowstorm is passing through the area. Mr. Coffee is still the best product, Ellison has a date, Grace throws a party, a bank failure, two dead both frozen, an insurance problem and a unique Thanksgiving dinner will grip you as the pages turn. Give yourself enough time to read it in one sitting. I highly recommend this book and series.

PUBLISHED: JUNE 19

PUBLISHER: HENERY PRESS

NETGALLEY SAYS:

“Visiting a psychic is outside the norm for Ellison Russell. Finding bodies is not. Unfortunately, the psychic’s crystal ball says she’ll soon be surrounded by death. Again. Drat.

Now there’s a corpse in the front drive, a witchy neighbor ready to turn Ellison and her (not so) little dog into toadstools, and a stripper named Starry Knight occupying the guest room.

How did 1975 go so wrong so quickly?”

I have enjoyed all the books in this series. According to Amazon a new one is coming out in October. I haven’t seen it yet in Edelweiss, but I will certainly keep looking!

I have bought the new ones in the series as they came out (after Henery Press stopped doing ARC’s), but I haven’t gotten around to reading them yet. This year I am not requesting many books which should open up my time to do some of that back reading. This series will be a priority; it is so good!
