Think Positive!
Beginning a series in the 7th book is difficult as one does not know about events that occur in the earlier volumes. This a new author and series for me.
Lucky Smith and Paul Keller are vacationing in Banff, Alberta over the Thanksgiving weekend. At the local restaurant Lucky is bother by two bullies; one turns out to be Paul's estranged son, Matt. Late that night Matt calls his Father and tells him he has found his roommate, Barry dead. When his Dad and Lucky arrive Matt has disappeared. Molly Smith aka Moonlight comes to Banff to support her Mother.
Back in Trafalga,BC Sergeant John Winters attempted to halt a spontaneous demonstration against the Grizzly Resort's plans to develop their land. Molly needs to persuade Matt to turned himself into the police. John Winters attempts to stopped the demonstration before anyone gets hurt. The author has skillfully brought this events together. This series is on my TBR list.

It is hard to drop into a series that far along. I have read a few by this author and liked them, but I have not read any from this series.
It was her first series. I went special to order the books. I think there 6 books in the series. It takes place in Canada.
Interesting setting for those in the U.S.
